Shut off the emergency power switch just before and after a fuel delivery
During delivery home heating oil is pumped into your tank under high pressure causing any sludge or sediment that is on the bottom of the tank to be “stirred” up into the remainder of the fuel. Over time it will settle back down to the bottom. For this reason it is highly recommended that you turn off your Furnace just before a delivery and allow the tank to settle for 2 hours before turning it back on. This will prevent the burner from sucking up any fuel before these contaminates have a chance to settle back down to the bottom of your tank.
